Young male. It’s that young one," while outside the residence. She also instructed her associate to transfer the surveillance photos using AirDrop to avoid detection.</p><p>Investigators believe Zhang received the assignment during a meeting with a Chinese government contact in Changsha, China, in June 2025. The complaint suggests that the information gathered could provide Beijing with leverage over Taiwan's president in the event of a conflict.</p><p>Essayli emphasized that this type of surveillance is not typical diplomatic behavior, particularly within the United States. Zhang is scheduled to appear in federal court in Los Angeles, where she is presumed innocent until proven guilty.</p><p>This arrest follows a separate case involving former Arcadia Mayor Eileen Wang, who was charged with acting as an agent of China and spreading pro-Beijing propaganda in the U.S.</p>
