Former Premier League player Andy Carroll has confirmed that he was sexually assaulted by Kevin Adams, a dance coach on the BBC show Fame Academy. Adams, now 59, was convicted at Chelmsford Crown Court and sentenced to 20 months in prison in 2023. He appeared as a coach on the BBC1 talent show in 2002 and on Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two in 2021. Carroll, 37, revealed Adams's name after it appeared in publicly-available court documents. He stated, 'Now that Kevin Adams has been named in court documents as my abuser, I can confirm it. Hopefully now I can finally start to put this chapter behind me. This had a devastating impact on my life and loved ones.' In his new book, Owning It, Carroll detailed the 'traumatic' assault that occurred several years ago, explaining that he only decided to include it after discussions with his publisher. He described waking up after consuming alcohol to find Adams attempting to perform oral sex on him. Carroll recounted that the incident happened after a Newcastle United game when Adams invited himself over to watch a boxing match. He stated, 'I was playing down south somewhere and on my way home this guy texts to ask what I am up to. When he texts again to ask if he can come round to watch the boxing with me, my partner tells me to stop pieing him off [putting him off].' Carroll described feeling lightheaded and suspected that Adams may have slipped something into his drink. He stated, 'I sleep naked and when I wake up this guy is under the duvet trying to give me a blowjob.' Carroll recounted physically confronting Adams and calling the police after the incident. Adams was subsequently found guilty of sexual offences and placed on the Sex Offender Register. Carroll shared that he has received numerous messages of support from male victims of sexual assault since revealing his experience. He emphasized the importance of men feeling able to share their stories on their own terms. Carroll described the court case as 'humiliating and embarrassing and absolutely horrendous.' He also mentioned that the trauma from the incident has affected his daily life and ability to focus on football. Carroll recently pleaded not guilty to breaching a non-molestation order related to his ex-wife Billi Mucklow, with whom he shares three children. The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for both Carroll and Adams for comment.
