Prosecutors are considering whether to retry Lindsay Clancy for the murders of her three children, while her attorney Kevin Reddington has resumed work on another case involving Kelsie Cote, who is accused of killing her grandmother, Doris Cote, in 2022 to inherit an estate valued at over $1 million.

The case against Cote was delayed for several months as Reddington defended Clancy. Following the conclusion of Clancy's trial, which resulted in a hung jury and mistrial, Reddington appeared in Berkshire County Superior Court on Monday.

During Monday's hearing, which was initially intended to review a motion to suppress statements made by Cote to law enforcement, the court instead assessed the status of the case due to Reddington's failure to file the motion. A new hearing on the motion to suppress Cote's statements has been scheduled for November 30 and December 1, 2026.

Reddington contends that Cote's statements should be suppressed because police did not inform her of her Miranda rights, particularly her right to remain silent during questioning.

Assistant District Attorney Marianne Shelvey requested the court to impound the defense, limiting public access to the case. She argued that Reddington's increased visibility could heighten public interest in Cote's case, which she described as serious and sensitive, and that public disclosure of the information could impede the prosecution's efforts.

Judge Maureen Hogan granted the request to restrict access.

Reddington also indicated that he plans to seek suppression of evidence obtained during a search warrant execution, claiming that police lacked probable cause for the search.

Doris Cote was discovered deceased in her home on November 1, 2022, with injuries consistent with blunt force and sharp force trauma.

Prosecutors allege that Kelsie Cote exploited her close relationship with her grandmother to become the beneficiary of her estate, subsequently killing her to fund her drug addiction. They accuse her of using scissors to stab her grandmother and striking her with a paperweight, then dragging her body to stage the scene to resemble an accidental fall.

Cote initially informed authorities that she found her grandmother's body around 10 a.m. on November 1. Six hours later, she contacted her father for assistance, who was the first to call 911 upon arrival.

Investigators noted injuries that contradicted a fall, including sharp force injuries to the back of Doris Cote's head and a defensive wound on her thumb. Evidence suggested that Doris had been killed in her office and then moved to the stairs.

Police discovered bloody towels and cleaning supplies near the suspected crime scene, with Cote stating that she attempted to clean up because she believed her grandmother would be upset about the mess.

Berkshire District Attorney Timothy Shugrue informed The Eagle that Cote conducted several suspicious internet searches prior to her grandmother's death, including one related to human skull anatomy. Bloody clothing, along with the scissors and paperweight alleged to have been used in the murder, were reportedly found in Cote's 2014 Chevrolet Malibu.

Cote's trial is scheduled for May 2027 and is anticipated to last two weeks.
