Android Central confirms continuation of operations after staff layoffs

<figure> <img alt="" src="https://platform.theverge.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/10/Screenshot-2026-10-01-at-12.18.47-PM.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;crop=0,0,100,100" /> <figcaption> </figcaption> </figure> <p class="wp-block-paragraph"><em>Android Central</em>, a blog focused on the Android ecosystem, laid off its staff on September 30, 2026, but owner Future confirmed to <em>The Verge</em> that the site will continue publishing.</p> <p class="wp-block-paragraph">On the day of the layoffs, four of the six staff members on <em>Android Central</em>'s staff page publicly announced their job loss, including <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/posts/shrutishekar_i-was-part-of-the-layoffs-at-future-yesterday-activity-7511414208626913281-xCTF?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop&amp;rcm=ACoAAAIV1iYBHi7OPybalzIKilWBO4bTY5vJb8c">Shruti Shekar</a>, <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/posts/bhollyov_as-of-today-my-time-at-android-central-has-activity-7511172120819810305-Opf9?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop&amp;rcm=ACoAAAIV1iYBHi7OPybalzIKilWBO4bTY5vJb8c">Derrek Lee</a>, <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7511134110216667137/">Harish Jonnalagadda</a>, and <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7511184016037814272/">Nicholas Sutrich</a>. Former senior editor Namerah Saud Fatmi also updated <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/namerah-saud-fatmi-6132541b8/?isSelfProfile=false">her LinkedIn</a> to indicate that her tenure at <em>Android Central</em> had ended. Both Lee, the site's managing editor, and Sutrich confirmed that all remaining staff were laid off.</p> <p class="wp-block-paragraph">The former staff members were not informed whether the site would shut down.
