Yorba Linda Football Team Forfeits Four Victories Due to CIF Rule Violations

Yorba Linda's football team has forfeited four victories due to violations related to administrative oversight and undue influence, as reported by Dan Albano of The Orange County Register. The team, which had started the season undefeated, will now enter the Alpha League with a 0-5 record. The forfeited victories were against Laguna Beach, Long Beach Poly, El Dorado, and Esperanza. The team's first loss occurred on September 18, when they were defeated by Huntington Beach with a score of 29-25. The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District stated that the CIF-SS determined the violations on Tuesday. The district's statement noted that the violations involved multiple students and incidents, highlighting deficiencies in eligibility verification, communication between coaches and athletic administration, and participation clearance. The CIF-SS found that Yorba Linda violated section bylaws 503 B(1) and 510. Bylaw 503 B(1) pertains to the failure of school administration to submit proper CIF Section transfer eligibility paperwork, while bylaw 510 states that sports cannot be the reason for a student's enrollment or transfer to a new school. The district has indicated that measures are being taken to ensure the program remains eligible for league games and potential CIF-SS competition. With five games remaining in the season, the Mustangs must achieve a .300 record to qualify for the CIF-SS playoffs.
