Public Citizen Files Complaint Over Trump Ads Allegedly Violating Anti-Propaganda Laws

<p>Consumer advocacy group Public Citizen has filed a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), requesting that broadcasters cease airing Trump commercials that they claim violate U.S. laws. The group alleges that the ads misuse taxpayer funds for propaganda and contravene regulations that limit political activities by federal government employees.</p><p>According to Public Citizen, the most recent ad, titled 'The Final Battle,' closely resembles a commercial released by the Trump campaign for the 2024 election. The ad features black-and-white footage of Trump walking down a corridor, accompanied by audio stating, 'This is the final battle. With you at my side, we will demolish the deep state. We will expel the warmongers from our government.' A notice at the bottom of the screen indicates that it was 'Paid for by the US government.'</p><p>In the ad, Trump also asserts, 'We will cast out the communists, Marxists, and fascists. We will throw off the sick political class that hates our country, we will rout the fake news media, and we will liberate America from these villains once and for all.' The ad reportedly uses the same video and audio as the 2024 campaign version, with the key distinction being that the latter was funded by Trump's campaign committee rather than the U.S. government. The White House has stated that the recent ads are intended as public service announcements.</p>
