Trump Announces $15 Billion Steel Plant in Iowa

Trump stated that the plant, developed by Mesabi Metallics, a Minnesota company owned by India's Essar Group, will become the largest steel plant in the United States, with an expected production capacity of 10 million tons of steel per year once fully operational. The plant is projected to begin production in 2030 and will be supplied by a new $2.5 billion iron ore mine developed by Mesabi in Minnesota. Trump attributed the resurgence of the American steel industry to the 50% tariffs on steel imports he imposed the previous year, stating, "Everyone is building their plants here because they don’t want to pay tariffs." The event also featured remarks from Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird, among others. Jeff Kaufmann, chairman of Iowa's Republican Party, emphasized that such investments are attracted to states with favorable business conditions.
