13-Year-Old Stabs Teacher to Death and Injures Two in Slovakia

A 13-year-old elementary schoolboy has fatally stabbed a 61-year-old female teacher and seriously injured a 44-year-old female teacher and a schoolgirl in an incident in Staskov, northwestern Slovakia, according to authorities. The attack occurred on Tuesday, and emergency service spokeswoman Petra Klimesova reported that the schoolgirl is in critical condition. Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok stated that the second teacher's life is not in danger. The motive for the attack is currently unknown. Police have detained the attacker, who is being investigated by the Office for Combating Organised Crime (UBOK) for premeditated murder. The law enforcement service reported that the situation in the village, which has a population of about 2,750, is under control. Estok commended the head teacher present during the incident for following procedures that may have prevented further tragedy. Prime Minister Robert Fico expressed his condolences and concern regarding the incident, while President Peter Pellegrini voiced shock at the attack, linking it to a broader issue of aggression and intolerance influenced by social media and political discourse. Pellegrini called for citizens to promote a calmer atmosphere. This incident follows previous school attacks in Slovakia, including a stabbing last year that resulted in two fatalities and another attack in 2020 that left several injured.
