Trump launches America.gov to enhance access to government services

The administration of United States President Donald Trump has launched a new website called America.gov, designed to simplify access to government information. The website functions similarly to a chatbot, directing users to official government sources for inquiries such as passport renewals. The president announced the site on Tuesday, accompanied by several Cabinet officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. In a speech, Trump stated that the website would not store user information and highlighted its role in providing simplified access to information about elections and citizenship applications. The site is powered by Google’s Gemini AI and xAI’s Grok, according to chief design officer Joe Gebbia. The executive order establishing the site describes it as 'a unified digital front door to the Federal Government for every individual in the United States seeking Federal information or services.' It aims to allow users to sign in, communicate in plain language, receive accurate answers, and, where authorized, complete government transactions without navigating multiple agency websites. White House officials informed Al Jazeera that the website will adhere to the security protocols of the relevant government agencies, which will retain user data. Al Jazeera tested the website's responses, finding that it did not label news outlets when asked about 'fake news' and confirmed Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 presidential election. The site directed users to government websites for specific records such as tax information and political donations. Rubio indicated that future capabilities may include helping Americans apply for passports directly through the site and uploading passport photos. The website was developed in collaboration with the National Design Studio, part of the Executive Office of the President, established by Trump in August 2025.
