Delivery woman killed in Herald Square after collision with dump truck

A delivery woman was killed when a dump truck collided with her e-bike and then drove off in Herald Square on Monday, according to police and an advocacy group. The incident occurred around 10:50 a.m. as both the truck and the 50-year-old cyclist were traveling west on West 34th Street, approaching Seventh Avenue, near the Primark store and close to Macy’s flagship location. The truck driver continued west on West 34th Street after the collision, authorities reported. The woman, who was riding a JOCO rental e-bike and making a delivery, was pronounced dead at the scene. The NYPD confirmed that the driver was later located and questioned but did not face any charges by late afternoon. Transportation Alternatives, an advocacy organization, expressed concern over the incident, stating, "We’re horrified and heartbroken that another bike rider is dead. This is the 20th bike rider killed on our streets this year." They noted that 17 New Yorkers on e-bikes have been killed this year and emphasized the need for increased safety measures. The hit-and-run incident occurred a week after a 68-year-old pedestrian, Ismael Rodriguez, was struck and killed by a motorist, who had not been apprehended. Earlier this month, a 77-year-old man was also killed in a collision with a bicyclist in Downtown Brooklyn.
