Mekhi Becton Expected to Sign with Packers' Practice Squad

Former NFL player Mekhi Becton is expected to sign with the Green Bay Packers' practice squad after working out for the team on Monday morning, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Becton, a former top-10 pick in the NFL draft, was released by the Los Angeles Chargers in March after signing a two-year, $20 million contract in 2025. He started 14 games last season and was the starting right guard for the Philadelphia Eagles during their Super Bowl run the previous year after transitioning from tackle. Becton was selected 11th overall by the New York Jets in the 2020 draft out of Louisville. His tenure with the Jets was marked by injuries, resulting in him appearing in only one game during the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Fowler reported that Becton is now healthy, having undergone surgery for a labrum issue in his shoulder during the offseason. The Packers are seeking reinforcements for their offensive line, which has struggled at the start of the 2026 season. The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman noted that Becton’s versatility includes experience at left tackle, right guard, and right tackle. Additionally, there was interest from the Pittsburgh Steelers in Becton as they aim to protect quarterback Aaron Rodgers in his final season. The Packers have also signed Cordell Volson and Laken Tomlinson to bolster their offensive line.
