Russian Strikes Result in Casualties Across Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Moscow launched nearly 4,000 drones, aerial bombs, and missiles against Ukraine in the past week. A Russian military strike on northeastern Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, injured at least 22 people, including children, following a nationwide attack that killed eight individuals. Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekov stated on his Telegram account that a guided Russian aerial bomb struck an apartment block early on Monday, damaging two floors of the multistorey building, with six children among the injured. Russian attacks were also noted across Ukraine on Sunday. Ukrainian Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Vyhivskyi reported that three people, including a 16-year-old girl, were killed in air strikes that impacted a children's center in the northern city of Sumy. In the Odesa region, authorities reported a 'massive strike' in the southern Black Sea area that resulted in one death and damage to residential buildings, a shop, a hotel, a medical facility, and a grain warehouse. In Kyiv, Mayor Vitali Klitschko indicated that a woman and two 16-year-olds were injured and hospitalized, with the city administration noting that 'the enemy continues to relentlessly attack the Kyiv region with strike drones.' Sixteen sites were reported damaged, including 12 houses, a warehouse, and a production facility. President Zelenskyy noted that three individuals were killed in strikes in the southern Zaporizhia region and that a Russian drone strike resulted in one death in Kyiv. He stated on his X account that Russia had launched over 2,200 attack drones, 1,630 aerial bombs, and 38 missiles of various types against Ukraine in the past week. Zelenskyy remarked that if Russia were genuinely preparing for de-escalation, as it claims to American negotiators, the current wave of attacks would not be occurring. In Moscow, Russia's Ministry of Defence claimed responsibility for bombing a Kyivstar data center in Kyiv and another belonging to Omega Telecom, asserting that these firms were providing services to the Ukrainian army. Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov informed the United Nations General Assembly that Moscow intends to continue its military campaign 'to the end.' Ukrainian drones reportedly targeted an oil depot in Russia's Krasnodar region on Monday, with local reports indicating a large fire at the Pavlovskaya oil depot. Ukraine has increased its focus on Russian oil infrastructure in recent weeks. United States-led discussions aimed at ending the war, which commenced with Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, have not yielded significant progress, and the UN has noted the rising civilian toll.
