Dan Wilson is no longer the manager of the Seattle Mariners, following a season in which the team missed the playoffs. Wilson announced his departure after the Mariners' final game of the season, a victory over the Los Angeles Angels. He stated, "This season has been very difficult, and of course the results have not been what any of us had expected. As a result, it was concluded that today is my last day as manager of the Seattle Mariners."
According to The Seattle Times, Wilson informed the Mariners of his decision before the start of the game on Sunday. The team confirmed the change in a statement, thanking Wilson for his contributions and noting that after discussions between president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto and Wilson, it was determined that a new direction was necessary for the future.
Dipoto expressed gratitude for Wilson's efforts, particularly highlighting the team's advancement to Game 7 of the American League Championship Series (ALCS) in 2025. Wilson, who had a successful playing career as a catcher for the Mariners, took over managerial duties after Scott Servais was let go during the 2024 season.
In his two seasons as manager, Wilson compiled a record of 187 wins and 171 losses. The Mariners finished the 2025 season with a record of 90-72, winning the American League West, but struggled in 2026, ending the season with a 76-86 record. Wilson mentioned that the club has expressed interest in potentially moving him to another role within the organization, which he plans to discuss with his family.
