Comedian Amelia Dimoldenberg Mocks Ed Sheeran on 'SNL UK' Following Macklemore Controversy

Comedian Amelia Dimoldenberg made a joke about Ed Sheeran during her opening monologue on 'Saturday Night Live UK,' referring to him as a 'world-famous red-headed puppet' amid the controversy surrounding Sheeran and Macklemore. Dimoldenberg stated, 'I’ve been incredibly privileged to have done so many interviews with people like Idris Elba, Cher and even a world-famous, red-headed puppet with a hand up his ass telling him what to say.' This comment followed Macklemore's pro-Palestine speech at a concert, after which he was removed as an opener for Sheeran's Loop Tour. Macklemore had stated, 'I wanted to stand up here on stages across America and say two words that are near and dear to my heart: Free Palestine.' Following this, he announced on Instagram that Sheeran's team decided to remove him from the tour. Macklemore emphasized that he did not consider himself a victim, stating, 'The victims are the Palestinian people ... who have been killed, starved, displaced and forced to live through unimaginable violence.' Sheeran later addressed the situation on Instagram, explaining that the decision to remove Macklemore was made by the promoter and that he had attempted to find a resolution. He expressed that he was not complicit in the conflict and refrained from discussing politics due to his diverse fan base. Sheeran also shared his emotional struggles during a concert in Philadelphia, stating, 'In these situations you really find out who your friends are.' On September 24, Macklemore announced his 'Free Palestine Tour,' with proceeds supporting organizations for the Palestinian people.
