Malaysia’s Eain Yow Ng and Sivasangari Subramaniam qualify for 2028 Olympics with Asian Games gold

Malaysia’s Eain Yow Ng and Sivasangari Subramaniam have qualified for the 2028 Olympics after winning gold medals at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. They are the first squash players to secure a spot for the Los Angeles Games, where squash will debut as an Olympic sport. Ng and Subramaniam defended their titles in the men’s and women’s singles finals on Sunday without losing a game throughout the tournament. Ng, ranked 18th in the world, defeated India’s Abhay Singh with scores of 11-9, 11-5, 11-5 in 33 minutes. Subramaniam, ranked fifth globally, won against India’s Anahat Singh, ranked 17th, with scores of 11-4, 11-4, 11-7 in 23 minutes. Their victories contributed to Malaysia's total of five and six gold medals at the Games. In the semifinals, Anahat Singh made history by becoming the first Indian woman to reach the singles final at the Asian Games after a comeback victory over Japan’s Satomi Watanabe. Earlier in the day, Pakistan secured two bronze medals, with Noor Zaman defeating Ashab Irfan in the bronze match.
