Phillies lose to Rays, playoff hopes hinge on final two games

<p>Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner went 1-for-4 and struck out in the third inning during a game against the Tampa Bay Rays on September 25, 2026. All-Star pitcher Jesús Luzardo has not yet thrown a simulated game as he recovers from shoulder inflammation.</p><p>Phillies interim manager Don Mattingly stated before the game that he believed his team was handling the pressure well. "These guys have been through it," Mattingly said. "I feel OK. If we’ve got to tell guys at this point that it’s urgent that we win games, then we’re in trouble. The urgency, everybody knows. It’s pretty much right in your face. We’ve just got to go out and play good baseball."</p><p>Before the game, the Phillies honored Bill Giles, who passed away earlier that day at the age of 92. Giles had a long association with the franchise, serving as a business executive and later as owner and CEO.
