Protester Disrupts Climate Week Event in New York City

<p>A member of the group Code Pink disrupted a Climate Week event in New York City on Thursday, criticizing the U.S. military for its alleged contribution to the climate crisis.</p><p>The protest targeted an event hosted by The Nature Conservancy, which Code Pink claims does not adequately address the U.S. military’s environmental impact, including its carbon footprint and the degradation caused by military operations.</p><p>During the disruption, a man identified as Aaron, the campaign organizer for Code Pink's War Is Not Green initiative, stated, "There is an elephant in the room that The Nature Conservancy does not want to address. It is destroying ecosystems. It is destroying fish. It is destroying the world."</p><p>Aaron highlighted the Pentagon’s budget of $1.5 trillion and questioned why The Nature Conservancy, which has a budget exceeding $2 billion, does not address the military's environmental impact.</p><p>Code Pink emphasized that any serious discussion about climate change should include the military-industrial complex, which they argue plays a significant role in global warming.</p><p>The group called for The Nature Conservancy and other environmental organizations to publicly recognize the U.S. military as a major institutional polluter, to reject partnerships or funding associated with the military-industrial complex, and to advocate for reductions in the Pentagon budget and an end to wars that harm ecosystems.</p><p>Aaron remarked, "You cannot claim to protect the land and waters while ignoring the largest institutional polluter on Earth. The Nature Conservancy has a $2 billion budget and a global platform. It has a responsibility to name the war machine as a driver of climate destruction.
