Xi Jinping Commends US State Visit as Donald Trump Calls Meetings Productive

<p>Chinese President Xi Jinping praised the level of "perfection" during his state visit to the White House, while President Donald Trump described the meetings as "very productive" on Friday. Trump made these remarks to reporters as he and First Lady Melania Trump hosted Xi and China's First Lady, Madame Peng Liyuan, for tea at the White House.</p><p>Trump stated, "we've had a tremendous visit from two spectacular people," adding that "we've made great strides, very positive for both countries." In response, Xi, through a translator, expressed gratitude for the hospitality, saying, "Everything is down to the highest order of perfection. And there is thought in every little detail. And it's greatly appreciated." He further commented on the relationship between the two nations, noting, "The president and I are like two people that's charting the course for the great ship of China, U.S. relations." Xi mentioned that during Trump's visit to China in May, they agreed on a vision for a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability, and this visit added new substance to that agreement.</p><p>Xi, who leads China's ruling Communist Party, noted that he has two upcoming opportunities to meet Trump later this year: first at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in China in November, and then at the G20 Summit in December at Trump's Doral resort in Miami, Florida. Trump remarked, "We will see you and we'll be speaking a lot. I think our farmers are going to be very happy. A lot of very positive things happened. But, America is very happy about this visit and I'm sure China is very happy also. Great things for both countries. And it's been just very, very productive."</p><p>Xi arrived in Washington on Wednesday evening for the summit with Trump, which took place four months after the two leaders reached a significant agreement that included Chinese commitments on rare earths, agricultural purchases, trade, and investment. Trump described that agreement as a breakthrough for American farmers, manufacturers, and workers. However, the latest discussions occurred amid uneven progress on commitments related to rare-earth minerals, agricultural and commercial purchases, trade, and investment, while key disputes over tariffs, advanced technology, artificial intelligence, intellectual property, and Taiwan remain unresolved.</p><p>Trump shared on Truth Social, "President Xi and Madam Peng have just left D.C., heading for China. The meeting was one of Friendship, Strength, and Success, for both China and the U.S.A. Much has been, and will be, accomplished.
