Javier Milei Critiques United Nations in Speech at General Assembly

He acknowledged the U.N.’s founding mission of promoting peace and dignity but stated that it has failed to fulfill this mission in practice.</p><p>Milei criticized the U.N. for its response to the COVID-19 pandemic, labeling it a form of "genocide" and condemning what he referred to as the "gender agenda, environmental extremism, and unchecked immigration." He argued that during the pandemic, the U.N. prioritized bureaucratic interests over scientific evidence and national sovereignty, leading to policies that he claims resulted in millions of avoidable deaths.</p><p>He asserted that the U.N. has not taken responsibility for its failures, stating, "every time [the U.N.] failed, rather than reviewing the model or apologizing, they doubled down." He claimed that the organization has allowed chaos and international terrorism to thrive and has supported oppressive regimes while failing to address human rights violations.</p><p>Milei also addressed Argentina's grievances regarding the Malvinas (Falkland) Islands, stating that the U.N. has ignored issues of territorial sovereignty. He criticized the organization for lacking authority and effectiveness, stating, "an institution that cannot ensure that its words carry weight in the real world loses the most important thing of all, its authority."</p><p>He concluded by arguing that the U.N. has created a bureaucratic system that imposes control over nations, which he described as a mix of anarchy and tyranny. He referenced economist Ludwig von Mises, stating, "Good people do not think about controlling the lives of their fellow human beings."</p>
