<p>After filing for divorce on "biblical grounds," Texas Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton’s estranged wife, state Sen. Angela Paxton, discussed her potential support for him in the upcoming election. In a speech to the Texas Federation of Republican Women titled "the elephant in the room," she emphasized the importance of controlling the Senate seat, stating, "it’s not the people, it’s the seat."</p><p>Angela Paxton remarked, "We have more control over that seat and the future when we control the seat, when it’s still in the family, even if we’re mad at them," which elicited laughter from the audience. Video of her address was shared on Facebook by the DeWitt County GOP and state Republican Executive Committee member Cheryl Thompson-Draper.</p><p>This marks the first public comment from Angela Paxton regarding the Texas Senate race since her divorce filing. Democrats are focusing on this seat as they aim to gain control of the Senate. According to a recent Fox News poll, Democratic candidate James Talarico leads Paxton by 3 percentage points, with 51% to 48%. The race has been categorized as a toss-up.</p><p>Angela Paxton filed for divorce from Ken Paxton in July 2025, citing adultery and insupportability due to discord. In her filing, she stated, "after 38 years of marriage, I filed for divorce on biblical grounds." She expressed her belief in the sanctity of marriage and her desire for reconciliation, but concluded that remaining in the marriage would not honor God or her family.</p><p>Despite the divorce, she encouraged GOP voters to remain loyal to the party in the upcoming midterm election, stating, "If we lose it to the other team, the nuances that we want to fix with maybe a certain candidate are nothing compared to what it’s going to take to get it back."</p><p>Angela Paxton acknowledged that personal frustrations with candidates could affect voter decisions but stressed that voting for a candidate also means supporting their party. Following a challenging primary race where he defeated longtime Sen. John Cornyn, Ken Paxton has faced difficulties in the general election against Talarico. Nevertheless, he remains confident that voters will reject Talarico, whom he has labeled a "fake" moderate, citing past comments made by Talarico regarding gender and sexuality. Ken Paxton has received support from President Donald Trump and financial backing from Trump's MAGA Inc. political action committee and Elon Musk’s America PAC.</p><p>In a recent interview, Talarico retracted his comments about God being nonbinary and the existence of six sexes, admitting that his statements "missed the mark." However, he also highlighted his legislative achievements, stating, "I am proud of my legislative track record delivering for Texans," and challenged Ken Paxton’s record.</p>
