A Texas lawyer, Mariah Medina, has addressed criticism regarding her sleeveless dress worn during a court appearance. The judge referred to her outfit as a "tank top," prompting Medina to clarify that it was a shift dress. Following the incident, she reported receiving negative feedback from fellow female attorneys online, with many stating her outfit was inappropriate. Medina expressed surprise at the lack of support from women in the legal field, stating, "The number of women attorneys who are just so ugly on the internet, I was like, ‘this is so strange.’" She noted that while some male lawyers also sent her critical messages, she expected more solidarity from women. Medina emphasized that she has worn the dress in other court settings without issue and plans to wear a blazer in future appearances before the judge. She reflected on the importance of standing up for oneself in the legal profession, quoting a mentor who advised her on the balance between fighting and conformity in her role as an attorney.
