Mother of ICE Victim Renee Nicole Good Discusses Voting for Trump

This comment was made during a public forum for families of ICE victims held on Tuesday.</p><p>Ganger, who is a registered Republican from Valley Falls, Kansas, expressed her belief that ICE agents were meant to protect American citizens from threats. She stated, “I’m a registered Republican. I voted for President Trump under the impression that these agents were here to protect the citizens of the United States, innocents, like our family, and the others here, against terrorists, certainly not to accuse those of us here of being terrorists and take precious lives. This is madness.”</p><p>The forum was led by Democratic Senators Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut and Robert Garcia of California, and included other families affected by ICE actions. Good was shot by ICE agent Jonathan Ross on January 7 during a protest against the Trump administration’s immigration policies, specifically an operation called “Operation Metro Surge.”</p><p>Good was in her vehicle when Ross fired three shots, resulting in her death, which was ruled a homicide by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner. The administration claimed that Good had attempted to run over ICE officers, with some officials labeling her a “domestic terrorist” following the incident.</p><p>Two weeks after Good's death, another individual, VA ICU nurse Alex Pretti, was shot and killed by ICE agents during a protest related to Good's death. Ganger expressed her feelings of helplessness regarding her daughter’s death, stating, “It is torture that, as her mom and as a family, we could not protect Renee.”</p><p>Ganger described her family as a diverse group with differing political views but emphasized their deep love for one another. She also highlighted the importance of action and accountability following her daughter’s death, stating, “Thoughts and prayers are not enough. We need action. We need accountability.”</p><p>Trump previously commented on the deaths of both Good and Pretti, describing them as “terrible,” but noted that Good’s death was “worse” because her parents were “big Trump fans.”</p>
