Kamala Harris Discusses Future Presidential Run and Focus on Midterm Elections

<p>Former Vice President Kamala Harris stated on Tuesday that she has not made a decision regarding a potential presidential run in 2028, emphasizing the importance of the upcoming midterm elections. Speaking to voters in Detroit, Harris was asked during a fireside chat if she had considered another White House campaign.</p><p>"I have not decided if I'm going to run again," Harris responded, shifting the focus to the midterm elections. She added, "I do, I do sincerely believe 28 won't matter if we don't get through 26."</p><p>Harris highlighted her commitment to traveling across the country to remind voters of their influence ahead of the 2026 elections. "And I'm a big believer that you can be. When you focus on the thing out there, you trip on the thing over here," she noted.</p><p>This discussion took place during Harris' second event in Detroit, moderated by Rev. Dr. Wendell Anthony, president of the Detroit Branch NAACP, and Rev. Dr. Genetta Y. Hatcher, pastor of The Room Church. Anthony encouraged attendees to vote and mentioned early and mail-in voting.</p><p>During the event, Harris was presented with merchandise promoting voter turnout. Earlier on the same day, she campaigned with Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed at a roundtable addressing Black maternal health and healthcare costs, where she criticized former President Donald Trump's healthcare policies and expressed support for El-Sayed.</p><p>Harris' comments come as she prioritizes the 2026 midterms while keeping the option of a future presidential campaign open. She was the Democratic presidential nominee in 2024 after then-President Joe Biden ended his re-election campaign, but she lost the election to Trump.</p>
