Colorado football has removed several players from its roster for "conduct detrimental to the team," as stated by head coach Deion Sanders during a press conference on Tuesday. The specific actions of the unnamed players have not been disclosed, but Sanders indicated that the decision was not solely based on the team's 41-7 loss to Northwestern on Saturday.
Sanders expressed confusion over players finding humor in the situation after the defeat, stating, "It’s never one [thing]. I’m one of the most loving and giving and forgiving men you could ever meet, but when you start [having] conduct detrimental to the team, you don’t care about the team, you care about you, I have a problem with that. A year ago, I didn’t put my foot down in it enough. It lingered a little bit. Then, it imploded."
Following Sanders' comments, the program released a statement noting that any potential roster changes have not been finalized and that an updated roster would be provided later this week.
In addition to the roster changes, safety Ben Finneseth issued an apology for remarks made before the game at Martin Stadium, where he criticized the venue, saying, "the stadium 'f–king sucks' and that this 's–t sounds like a f–king library.'" Finneseth later described his comments as childish and stated, "It was a stupid thing that I said. It won’t happen again. The way I handled it was horrible. I promise you guys it will not happen again and it’ll be much more mature moving forward."
Colorado's football team currently holds a 2-1 record for the season and is set to face Baylor in its first Big 12 game on Saturday.
