El-Sayed referred to a pregnant woman as "an adult" or "juvenile human" when responding to a pro-life student who questioned why they should vote for a progressive candidate like him.</p><p>El-Sayed, who supports codifying Roe v. Wade and funding Planned Parenthood, stated, "I respect your position insofar as it's founded in the idea that you want to protect and empower life. The question we have to ask ourselves is, what's the best way to do that? And whose life gets destroyed in that process?"</p><p>He elaborated that restricting access to reproductive care reduces the mother to "simply a carrying vehicle for a fetus that has not ever breathed air." This comment drew swift backlash from conservative critics on social media, who accused him of using dehumanizing language.</p><p>RNC Research, an account managed by the Republican National Committee, highlighted El-Sayed's choice of words, stating, "Abdul El-Sayed won’t even say the word woman while talking about pregnancy."
