Harris's previous electoral defeat in Michigan to President Donald Trump is noted, particularly regarding the influence of the Arab-American voting bloc. Many Arab Americans, disillusioned by her pro-Israel stance, did not support her in her presidential bid.
El-Sayed called for solidarity ahead of the midterms, stating that the outcome of the 2024 presidential election was affected by a lack of consensus among voters. He and Harris aim to focus on economic issues affecting struggling voters.
Critics, including Rogers, the Trump-backed Republican Senate nominee, framed Harris's visit as a sign of weakness for the Democrats. El-Sayed countered this criticism by asserting that addressing past differences is essential for building a winning coalition. He stated, "We don’t have to agree on everything to understand what is at stake," and urged voters to unite around shared economic priorities.
