Fifteen-year-old detained after shooting injures eleven at Turkish high school

Eleven people were injured in a shooting outside Inci Uzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Manisa, Turkey, on Tuesday morning. A 15-year-old male suspect has been detained following the incident, which left two individuals in critical condition. The injured are reported to be students of the school. The suspect's family members, including his mother, father, and grandfather, who allegedly owned the weapon, have also been detained, according to Turkey's Justice Minister Akın Gürlek. This shooting marks the third school shooting in Turkey this year, amid ongoing concerns about violence in educational settings. CCTV footage showed the suspect walking through empty streets with a shotgun before fleeing the scene. The motive for the attack remains unclear. Turkish law mandates that the teenager must appear before a court before being officially arrested. The Turkish education ministry expressed that the incident has 'deeply saddened our nation and our educational community in particular' and has dispatched three national investigators to Manisa. The recent spate of school shootings, including two deadly incidents in April, has prompted the government to consider new security measures for the upcoming academic year, including stricter gun control laws. In one of the April incidents, a 14-year-old fatally shot nine students and a teacher in Kahramanmaras before dying at the scene.
