Zach Ertz Signs with Eagles Following Dallas Goedert Injury

Free agent tight end Zach Ertz is signing a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, the team he played for from 2013 to 2021, according to multiple reports. Ertz will initially join the practice squad and is expected to move to the 53-man roster. NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported that Ertz is anticipated to be on the 53-man roster for the Eagles' upcoming game against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football. This move comes as the Eagles address an injury to tight end Dallas Goedert, who sprained his MCL and is expected to be sidelined for several weeks. Goedert left the Eagles' 24-20 victory over the Tennessee Titans in the second quarter after being targeted twice and recording one catch for four yards. Ertz, who spent the last two seasons with the Washington Commanders, had his 2025 season cut short due to a torn ACL sustained during a game against the Minnesota Vikings on December 7. At 35 years old, Ertz is 11 catches away from breaking the Eagles' franchise record of 589 catches, held by former wide receiver Harold Carmichael. Ertz had a successful tenure with the Eagles, including a Super Bowl victory in 2017 and three Pro Bowl selections from 2017 to 2019. The Eagles drafted Ertz in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, and he remained with the team until being traded to the Arizona Cardinals during the 2021 season. He played two-and-a-half seasons in Arizona before signing with the Commanders in 2024.
