Masked Individuals Steal Catalytic Converter from Vehicle in Los Angeles

A video recorded on September 16 shows a group of three masked individuals stealing a catalytic converter from a parked Toyota Prius in Los Angeles. The incident occurred around 4 a.m. when the suspects arrived in a white BMW SUV. The crew used the vehicle's high beams to illuminate the Prius while they worked. The theft was completed in approximately four minutes. William Fiero, a neighbor who recorded the event on his home security system, noted that he had previously been a victim of theft himself. He expressed concern about the rising trend of catalytic converter thefts in the area, questioning where the stolen parts end up. Catalytic converters are targeted by thieves due to the presence of valuable metals such as platinum, palladium, and rhodium. Fiero remarked on the dangers associated with such thefts, referencing a previous incident in which actor Johnny Wactor was killed in Downtown Los Angeles while confronting thieves stealing from his vehicle.
