Former NY Mets pitcher Craig Kimbrel’s brother dies in motorcycle accident

Former New York Mets pitcher Craig Kimbrel’s younger brother, Matt Kimbrel, 36, died in a motorcycle crash in Huntsville, Alabama. The incident occurred around 8 a.m. on Saturday when Matt Kimbrel collided at high speed with a dump truck that was exiting Highway 432, according to WCTV. Officials reported that he was unable to slow down in time before hitting the back of the truck. Matt Kimbrel was taken to a hospital where he later died. An investigation into the crash is ongoing, but no criminal charges are expected to be filed. Matt Kimbrel had previously been drafted by the Atlanta Braves and played in the minor leagues. His death comes one month after his brother Craig, 38, signed with the Kansas City Royals, marking the 12th MLB team in his professional career. Craig Kimbrel had signed a minor league deal with the Mets in January but was designated for assignment in May after appearing in 14 games. Matt Kimbrel is survived by his fiancée Genevieve, whom he proposed to in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. She expressed her grief online, stating, "My fiancé passed away, and right now I truly don’t have the words. I know there are people who love us and will have questions, but I’m asking for a little time and space before I’m ready to talk about what happened or say anything more.
