Tourists Rescued After Being Stranded on Oregon's Lost Boy Beach

<p>Three tourists were rescued after becoming stranded on Lost Boy Beach in Tillamook County, Oregon, on Wednesday, September 16. The group was cut off from the mainland due to a rising tide while attempting to take photographs at the secluded beach.</p><p>After losing cell phone service, they used an emergency satellite feature to contact 911, according to a report from The Oregonian. The Netarts-Oceanside Fire District responded to the call and located the stranded individuals using a drone, capturing footage of them signaling for help with sticks.</p><p>Lost Boy Beach is accessible only by navigating rocky terrain and passing through a sea cave. The beach is safe to visit during low tide, but the rising water can block the only exit.</p><p>NOFD Chief Jeff McBrayer stated, "When people are stranded there, we may not be able to get to them." Initially, crews considered waiting for the tide to recede but decided on an active rescue due to rough surf and the fact that the tourists were already wet and cold.</p><p>Rescuers navigated the dangerous conditions while secured to ropes and provided life vests to the tourists. They guided the group through the surf to a secure area where they could exit safely.</p><p>The tourists emerged from the incident with only minor injuries. Following the rescue, Chief McBrayer reminded visitors about the dangers of exploring isolated coves, advising them to consult locals or check tide information using a tide app.</p><p>Lost Boy Beach, located on the northern Oregon coast, is named after a local legend about a boy who allegedly drowned there due to the incoming tide. While the historical accuracy of the tale is unverified, it serves as a warning about the area's unpredictable conditions.</p><p>Accessing Lost Boy Beach has been historically treacherous, with safe overland access never established. The beach can only be reached during rare extreme low-tide events that occur a few times a year.</p>
