Shooting at Philippine school results in three fatalities

A shooting incident at a school in Banga town, South Cotabato, Philippines, on September 15, 2026, has resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including the 16-year-old suspected gunman. Several others were injured in the incident. According to a disaster agency worker, two of the deceased were students, and multiple individuals are receiving treatment at a hospital, with four of the eight injured reported to be in critical condition. All victims were students aged 14 to 17. The suspected gunman reportedly shot himself after the attack, as stated by South Cotabato provincial governor Reynaldo Tamayo, who later confirmed the attacker's death. The total number of shooters involved remains unclear. A teacher in a video circulating on social media mentioned the possibility of two shooters, while a student indicated that the attackers were outsiders. Governor Tamayo commented on the situation, stating, "For now, we are trying to let our fellow citizens know that the situation is stable and the case is contained. We never thought this would happen." This incident follows nationwide shooter drills aimed at enhancing school security, conducted in response to two previous school shootings in the country in recent months.
