Polish PM Tusk warns NATO of potential Russian hybrid attacks on European nations

Tusk emphasized that the narrative surrounding these incidents would likely claim they were accidents, thereby complicating NATO's response under Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, which states that an attack on one member is an attack on all. Tusk highlighted Russia's use of high-speed drones that are difficult for air defenses to intercept and reiterated his concerns about a serious hybrid attack against a NATO member state. He mentioned that intelligence from NATO, Kyiv, and the CIA has indicated an increase in Russian military activity aimed at disrupting supply lines to Ukraine. Tusk stated that Russia has no interest in peace talks unless Ukraine capitulates completely and warned that winter could be a critical period for Ukraine. Meanwhile, former President Trump indicated progress toward establishing a US Army base in Poland, which would enhance security against Russian threats. Poland has committed to significant defense spending, allocating 4.8% of its GDP to defense in 2026. Recent Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities resulted in injuries, and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte commented on the increasing recklessness of Russia's military actions, asserting that they would not deter NATO's support for Ukraine.
