Children Filmed Stealing from Corner Shop in Bournemouth

Children as young as five have been recorded stealing from a corner shop in Bournemouth, Dorset, while their parents waited outside. Shopkeeper Erdogan Yigitoglu, 52, has shared CCTV footage online to highlight the issue of shoplifting, which he claims has led to significant financial losses for his business over the years. The footage shows children taking items such as chocolate bars and fruit while wearing balaclavas. Mr. Yigitoglu expressed concern about young children mimicking adult behavior and the normalization of theft. He stated that he has lost thousands of pounds annually due to burglary, which has also affected his mental health. He believes that publicly sharing footage of shoplifters has helped reduce incidents in his store. He noted that about half of those caught on camera have returned to apologize and pay for the stolen items. Mr. Yigitoglu described feeling anxious about theft and emphasized the need for children to learn the difference between right and wrong. He hopes for a future where such behavior is not seen as acceptable. He reiterated the importance of supporting small businesses and the impact of theft on families and communities.
