Paramount has expressed serious intentions about potentially leaving California as Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass works to retain entertainment jobs in Hollywood. Sources within the studio indicated to Deadline on Wednesday that Paramount was close to announcing a departure from Los Angeles. The studio's consideration to leave stems from antitrust litigation led by California Attorney General Rob Bonta, along with 12 other states, aimed at blocking Paramount's $111 billion merger with Warner Bros. Discovery. Paramount, located on the historic Melrose Avenue studio lot, is the last major studio remaining in Hollywood. A previous report suggested that Paramount's exit could result in a loss of up to 58,000 jobs, $21 billion in economic output, and approximately $1.17 billion in annual tax revenue for California. TMZ reported that Paramount nearly finalized its decision to leave but ultimately chose to return to negotiations. This situation has intensified pressure on city and state officials to prevent the entertainment giant from relocating. When contacted by The Post, Mayor Bass did not confirm her direct involvement in negotiations but emphasized her commitment to protecting jobs in Los Angeles, particularly in the entertainment sector. A spokesperson stated that Bass is actively engaged in efforts to ensure that Los Angeles remains the entertainment capital of the world. Bonta's office declined to comment on whether negotiations with Paramount are ongoing, stating that the decision rests solely with Paramount while affirming their commitment to enforcing the law impartially. Current reports indicate that the immediate threat of Paramount's departure from California may have been temporarily alleviated, although the future of the studio remains uncertain due to ongoing legal challenges related to the merger.
