Robert Kraft has pledged to donate $2 million to Palestinian relief efforts following a personal appeal from Ed Sheeran. Kraft, the owner of the New England Patriots, stated that he had already decided to make the donation before Macklemore publicly challenged him to match his own $1 million donation. In a statement, Kraft said, "Earlier today, before Macklemore challenged me to match his donation, Ed called me and asked me to commit $2 million to match his donation to aid in the region to fight this humanitarian crisis." Kraft emphasized his commitment to helping people come together and stated, "all lives are worth protecting." He also noted his long-standing support for initiatives that create opportunities for Palestinians and foster relationships between Palestinians and Israelis. Macklemore announced his $1 million donation on Instagram, stating, "Whatever we disagree about, perhaps we can agree on this: Palestinian lives are worth protection." He was removed from Sheeran's Loop Tour after making a speech advocating for Palestine. In response to the controversy, Sheeran's tour openers, including Finneas and Lukas Graham, withdrew from the tour in solidarity with Macklemore. Sheeran addressed the situation in an Instagram statement, clarifying that the decision to remove Macklemore was made by the tour promoter, not him. He expressed disappointment over the conflict and mentioned his attempts to mediate between the parties involved. Macklemore accused Sheeran of being influenced by Kraft, claiming that Kraft had said Macklemore would not be allowed to perform at Gillette Stadium. Macklemore expressed concern over the prioritization of public image over humanitarian issues.
