Newlyweds die in boat collision in Venice lagoon

<p>Two newlyweds were killed in an accident involving a water taxi in Venice on Saturday morning, three months after their marriage. Gabriella Querino, 26, and Sean Michieli, 25, were involved in a collision with a 5-ton water taxi, according to reports from Jam Press.</p><p>The couple's boat had departed from Burano, an island in the Venetian Lagoon, approximately 6 miles northeast of central Venice. They were reportedly collecting bait for Michieli's work as a clam fisherman.</p><p>Following the collision, their boat sank. Querino was initially reported missing, and search efforts were complicated by strong currents and poor visibility. Her body was later recovered from the lagoon.</p><p>Michieli was taken to Venice-Mestre Hospital with severe head and facial injuries, among other injuries, and was pronounced brain-dead the following day.</p><p>Querino, originally from Ribeirão Preto, Brazil, had moved to Italy about two years ago and developed an interest in fishing alongside her husband, who was from Cavallino-Treporti, Italy. She was in the process of obtaining a license to work in the fishing industry.</p><p>The couple was expecting their first child, as reported by the Italian newspaper Il Resto del Carlino.
