<p class="wp-block-paragraph">New York City Mayor <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/?s=zohran+mamdani" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Zohran Mamdani</a> has confirmed the installation of bidets at Gracie Mansion, fulfilling a goal he expressed upon taking office.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When Mamdani moved into Gracie Mansion in January, he was asked if there were any changes he planned to make to the residence.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“One thing we will change is we will be installing a few bidets,” Mamdani stated in January.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">During a press conference on Wednesday, more than eight months into his term, Mamdani confirmed that the installation had been completed. A reporter inquired if the bidets had indeed been added.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“Yes, they are all there,” Mamdani replied, adding humorously, “Highly recommend. It’s like $20.”</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Bidets are not commonly found in the United States but are prevalent in various parts of the world, particularly in southern European countries such as Italy. They can be installed as separate fixtures next to the toilet or integrated directly into the toilet with a handheld option.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The mayor is permitted to update his private living quarters and add non-structural fixtures; however, any structural or historic alterations require city review, as Gracie Mansion is owned by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation and is preserved by the Gracie Mansion Conservancy.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The building was designated a New York City Landmark in 1966.</p>
