Cal State Fullerton student dies after fraternity event, alcohol suspected

An 18-year-old student at California State University, Fullerton, named Anthony Joseph Blas, died following a fraternity event, with police indicating that alcohol may have contributed to his death. Blas was dropped off at the emergency department of St. Jude Medical Center shortly after midnight on Saturday and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Fullerton Police Department. Investigators reported that Blas had attended an event at an unaffiliated fraternity, stating that "alcohol consumption appears to have been a contributing factor in the male’s death." Police confirmed that hazing was not a factor and there is no evidence of foul play. An investigation is ongoing. Blas had recently started his college education. In May, Los Altos High School celebrated his graduation and announced his acceptance to several colleges, including Cal State Fullerton, where he planned to attend in the fall.
