Photos obtained by CBS News show significant damage to U.S. military positions in the Middle East due to Iranian missile and drone attacks. The images were provided by active service members who requested anonymity due to military media restrictions. One service member stated, "This is major damage to our bases that hasn't been communicated to the American public."
One image from Prince Sultan Air Force Base in Saudi Arabia depicts a Boeing E-3 Sentry aircraft with severe damage, including a severed tail. Other photos from the base show damaged buildings and barracks alongside intact cement structures, which were previously thought to offer protection against attacks.
Similar damage was reported at Camp Buehring in Kuwait, a key staging area for U.S. Army forces. The Defense Department's inspector general recently released a report indicating equipment losses from the conflict with Iran valued at up to $3.7 billion, including nearly 60 aircraft. The report noted Iranian strikes on U.S. bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman, and Jordan. The Pentagon did not comment on the report.
The service member expressed concern about the lack of defense for the bases, stating, "We're just watching them get destroyed."
