Agility Robotics Introduces Humanoid Robot Designed for Safe Interaction with Humans

<p>Agility Robotics has introduced its first humanoid robot, Digit 5, designed to operate safely in proximity to human workers. This robot features safety mechanisms that may enable its use in environments such as warehouses and automotive factories without the need for isolated work cells or physical barriers.</p><p>Digit 5 can autonomously take actions when it detects a person nearby, such as moving away or remaining stationary to allow the individual to pass. Additionally, if a person approaches closely, the robot can squat and assume a seated position.</p><p>“The robot was designed with a complex safe motion system that can take a variety of different mitigations depending on exactly what sort of human presence is detected,” stated Pras Velagapudi, chief technology officer at Agility, in an interview with Ars Technica.</p>
