This marked his first return following a hospitalization in mid-June.</p><p>A video shared on X by independent journalist Desirée Townsend showed the 84-year-old senator being transported for a Senate vote. He was accompanied by his chief of staff and communications director, who earn $226,000 and $214,000 per year, respectively.</p><p>The Daily Beast’s political reporter Sarah Ewall-Wice noted that McConnell did not take questions from reporters outside the chamber and was heard responding in a softer voice while on the Senate floor.</p><p>McConnell appeared thinner and frailer than in previous public appearances. A bruise was also noted on his left hand.</p><p>Speculation regarding McConnell’s health increased during his absence, as details surrounding his hospitalization remained unclear. His wife, Elaine Chao, has not publicly commented on his return to work.</p><p>Chao was in China during McConnell’s hospitalization and did not return immediately.
