Former Aide of Senator John Fetterman Calls for His Resignation from Politics

In a segment on CNN News Central, Easton discussed an X account allegedly managed by former staffers that promised to release damaging screenshots related to Fetterman.</p><p>During the segment, host Brianna Keilar referenced a thread from the account, stating that former staffers are “disgusted with what [Fetterman’s] become” and that a Wall Street Journal article about his disinterest is “just the tip of the iceberg.” The account indicated that it would share the first set of screenshots on September 14, coinciding with the Senate's return to session.</p><p>As of 1 p.m. on September 15, the X account had not provided any updates. Easton, while not directly involved with the account, suggested that the material could reveal Fetterman's blunt communication style.</p><p>Easton emphasized that the situation itself is noteworthy, stating, “I cannot point to a time in history where staffers have felt compelled to sound the alarm about their principal this way.” He noted that part of his departure from Fetterman's staff was due to the senator's views on Israel and Iran, as well as a perceived lack of interest in fulfilling his responsibilities.</p><p>He remarked, “I feel like there is a duty for the people of Pennsylvania to understand that they don’t have two senators right now.” The Wall Street Journal reported that Fetterman has been resistant to meetings with constituents and has preferred conservative media appearances to discuss his advocacy for Israel.</p><p>Fetterman has described the Wall Street Journal article as a “hit piece from disgruntled staffers.” Easton noted that despite being Fetterman's chief policy advisor, he often had to “beg” Fetterman to engage with constituents and fulfill his duties as a senator.</p><p>Easton acknowledged Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's efforts to include Fetterman in the caucus but indicated that Fetterman's desire for isolation limits those efforts. Concerns have been raised about Fetterman potentially switching parties if the Senate majority changes, with Easton suggesting that Fetterman seeks attention from such discussions.</p><p>Fetterman has publicly stated his intention to remain a Democrat and fulfill the role he campaigned for. Easton criticized Fetterman's participation in a Republican convention, calling it “absurd” and “offensive.”</p><p>Easton concluded by expressing disappointment that Fetterman is not leading necessary conversations within the Democratic Party and suggested that he should reconsider seeking reelection due to his unhappiness in the role.
