Samuel Eto’o, the former Chelsea and Barcelona striker, is facing an investigation regarding allegations of embezzlement related to his position in the Cameroon Football Federation. The Association of Amateur Football Clubs of Cameroon (ACFAC) has requested an inquiry into the Cameroon Football Federation and its president, Samuel Eto’o, following reports of alleged corruption.
Eto’o is accused of improperly receiving a payment from the Russian Football Union in relation to a friendly match held between Cameroon and Russia in October 2023. ACFAC claims that the Russian Football Union breached the terms of its contract with the Cameroonian federation, FECAFOOT, by transferring approximately 567,000 euros ($655,000) to a bank account that was not affiliated with FECAFOOT.
Additionally, ACFAC has stated its intention to file a lawsuit against Eto’o in Cameroonian courts and to pursue a separate legal complaint against the Russian Football Union in Russia. In a related note, last month, Eto’o expressed his support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino, asserting that Infantino “hasn’t done anything wrong” despite facing increasing calls for his resignation due to a controversial World Cup sell-off plan.
