Laura Loomer Criticizes GOP Following Mitch McConnell's Return to Congress

McConnell, who is 84 years old, returned to Capitol Hill in a wheelchair and addressed reporters before casting a vote.</p><p>Loomer claimed that McConnell's return contradicted her previous assertions that his career was over. She posted a video on social media showing McConnell's appearance, which she described as frail, and criticized the GOP for suggesting he could continue his duties as a lawmaker.</p><p>In her post, Loomer compared the situation to the Democratic Party's handling of President Joe Biden, suggesting that both parties were misrepresenting the health of their leaders. She reiterated a previous claim that McConnell was "officially brain dead" and stated, "You can’t look at his face and say he’s not a vegetable. He’s not even responding to cognition tests. It’s like wheeling a corpse around." Loomer did not provide evidence for her claims beyond the video footage.</p><p>McConnell, who has been recovering from health issues, stated that his recovery has been challenging and that he is not yet fully back to normal. He expressed his commitment to continue physical therapy and participate in important votes. McConnell's aides had previously released images during his absence but did not show him speaking or moving.</p><p>During his return, McConnell missed 60 roll calls but remained on the Senate payroll, earning approximately $43,500 during his absence. He mentioned priorities such as the farm bill, NATO, and supporting allies against Russia.</p><p>McConnell's return was met with support from colleagues, including Senators Roger Wicker, James Lankford, John Curtis, Bernie Moreno, and Dick Durbin. The Daily Beast has reached out to both Loomer and McConnell's office for comments.</p>
