Former USPS Mail Carrier Charged with Hoarding Over 8,500 Pieces of Mail

A former mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) in California, Ronald Juckno, faces up to five years in prison after allegedly hoarding more than 8,500 pieces of undelivered mail. Juckno, 53, from Fresno, was arrested on Friday following an indictment. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California, between August and September 2024, Juckno was found in possession of this mail, which included sensitive items such as California Employment Development Department (EDD) correspondence, financial records, insurance records, medical correspondence, tax records, and utility bills. Following the discovery, he was placed on leave and subsequently resigned from his position. Juckno may face a maximum sentence of five years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000. He is scheduled for an initial court appearance today. In a related case, in 2022, Stephen Glover, 33, from Palmdale, was sentenced to 41 months in jail for attempting to steal over $250,000 in unemployment insurance funds through false claims of COVID-related job losses and stealing UI debit cards. Additionally, in 2016, 33 individuals were charged for stealing mail and failing to deliver approximately 50,000 pieces of mail, with one woman, Sherry Naomi Watanabe, found with over 48,000 pieces at her home. Most individuals charged in that case were former USPS employees.
