UCLA Implements New Attendance Policy for Rose Bowl Games

UCLA has announced a new policy regarding football attendance at the Rose Bowl, moving away from previous methods of reporting attendance figures. The Bruins disclosed the scan count for their home opener against San Diego State, which was 31,973, representing the number of individuals who entered the stadium. Previously, UCLA reported attendance figures that included tickets distributed, including complimentary tickets, as well as non-ticketed individuals such as players, coaches, and staff. This change aims to provide a clearer picture of actual attendance. For example, last season, UCLA reported an attendance of 35,032 for a game against Utah, while the scan count was only 27,785. The new policy is intended to enhance transparency regarding attendance figures. The attendance for the San Diego State game was affected by the absence of students, as classes had not yet resumed. New head coach Bob Chesney and athletic director Tim Harris worked to increase attendance, with Chesney encouraging fans to support the team and Harris purchasing 300 tickets for distribution. The new Field Club at the stadium was well-received, with nearly 700 attendees at its debut. UCLA running back Wayne Knight expressed his enjoyment of playing at the Rose Bowl, emphasizing the importance of fan support. Quarterback Nico Iamaleava noted the increase in fans and the team's commitment to providing an exciting experience to attract more spectators.
