Joe diGenova Resigns from DOJ Investigation Following Disagreement with Attorney General

DiGenova had been overseeing a DOJ investigation aimed at connecting various political grievances of Trump into a single case.</p><p>The investigation has resulted in numerous subpoenas over the past year but has not led to any criminal charges. DiGenova stated that he resigned due to “ethical” disagreements with the DOJ leadership, emphasizing the importance of having evidence for indictments.</p><p>Sources indicate that a disagreement arose between diGenova and Blanche regarding the pace of the investigation, which led to a tense phone call. DiGenova had attempted to block additional lawyers from DOJ headquarters from assisting with the investigation.</p><p>DiGenova, who previously worked on efforts to overturn the 2020 election results, resigned a day after the call. He expressed gratitude for his time at the DOJ, stating, “It was an honor and a privilege to serve the president and the department.”</p><p>In a statement to CNN, he declined to comment on the specifics of his disagreements with Blanche, instead noting that thorough investigations require time and evidence.</p><p>The DOJ's investigation has included scrutiny of former CIA Director John Brennan and has involved the issuance of subpoenas to intelligence officials regarding allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 election.</p><p>Career prosecutors had initially hesitated to pursue charges due to insufficient evidence but were replaced by diGenova, who was determined to bring charges. Previous investigations into the officials involved in the Russia inquiry did not yield evidence of wrongdoing.</p><p>The Daily Beast has reached out to the DOJ for further comments.</p>
