Former CIA Director John Brennan Subpoenaed in Investigation Related to Trump

Former CIA Director John Brennan has been subpoenaed to testify next month before a Florida grand jury as part of a Justice Department investigation into whether former law enforcement and intelligence officials conspired against President Donald Trump, according to his attorney. Ken Wainstein, Brennan's lawyer, stated in a court filing that prosecutors issued the subpoena on Thursday for Brennan to appear on October 15 in Fort Pierce, Florida. Wainstein indicated that the subpoena is part of a broad criminal probe examining allegations that government officials who investigated Trump over the past decade conspired to deprive him of his civil rights. This includes investigations into Russian election interference in 2016 and Trump's retention of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate. The subpoena to Brennan is one of many that have been issued recently. Wainstein also noted that a prosecutor informed him that Brennan remains a target in a separate Washington-based investigation regarding allegations that he lied to Congress in 2023, which Brennan and his legal team have denied. Subpoenas related to that investigation were issued in the spring but were later withdrawn in favor of voluntary interviews. The subpoena was revealed on the same day that Joe diGenova, the prosecutor leading the so-called 'grand conspiracy' investigation, resigned amid reported dissatisfaction from the Justice Department and the White House regarding the investigation's progress. The Justice Department has not announced a replacement for diGenova. Wainstein spoke with Kurt Olsen, a member of the investigative team, who previously attempted to persuade the Justice Department in 2020 to support Trump's claims that the 2020 election was stolen. The subpoena was disclosed shortly before a court hearing in Washington regarding a lawsuit filed by Brennan, who is seeking a court order to preserve all records from the investigations targeting him, asserting that these documents are crucial for challenging any potential indictment on grounds of vindictive prosecution.
