Putin Ally Linked to Group Sanctioned by Ukraine Attended Donald Trump Jr.'s Wedding

Kremlev is associated with a Russian organization, Healthy Fatherland, which has been sanctioned by Ukraine for allegedly aiding in the abduction of Ukrainian children.</p><p>According to ProPublica, Kremlev spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on the wedding and attended part of the three-day reception. Healthy Fatherland is reportedly run by Ekaterina Leshchinskaya, Kremlev’s wife’s twin sister.</p><p>Trump Jr. has not publicly acknowledged Kremlev's attendance at his wedding, and Kremlev did not appear in any of the photos shared on social media. This connection may complicate matters for Melania Trump, who has advocated for the return of Ukrainian children believed to have been abducted during the conflict.</p><p>In October 2025, Melania Trump handed a letter to President Vladimir Putin expressing concern for displaced children during his visit to Donald Trump in Anchorage, Alaska. The White House stated that she has assisted in reuniting several Ukrainian children with their families amid the ongoing conflict.</p><p>The United Nations reports that at least 1,200 Ukrainian children still need to return home after being taken by Russia since the invasion began in 2022. Ukraine estimates that nearly 20,000 children may have been illegally taken to Russia and Belarus. The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Putin in 2023 for alleged unlawful deportation of children, which Russia denies.</p><p>Kremlev reportedly paid for a private island rental for the wedding reception and other expenses, including a fireworks display. It is unclear why Kremlev, who has been sanctioned by Ukraine due to his ties to Putin, contributed financially to the wedding, especially considering Trump Jr.'s estimated net worth of around $300 million.</p><p>Frank Montoya Jr., a retired FBI official, commented on the situation, stating, "If I’m paying for your wedding, at some point, you’re going to owe me something. This should be unthinkable for the son of the president. End of story." Neither President Trump nor Melania attended the wedding.</p><p>A spokesperson for Trump Jr. stated that Kremlev is a personal friend and not a business associate, but did not dispute the claims regarding the wedding payments. Kremlev’s press office confirmed their friendly relationship and stated that Kremlev has not discussed political matters with his American acquaintances.</p><p>The Daily Beast has reached out to both Donald Trump Jr.’s and Umar Kremlev’s offices for further comments.</p>
